With warmer weather, it's time to head out to the lake with boat- or watercraft-trailer in-tow. You're all excited to get your feet wet again, and so you should. Winter is rough. Though, before heading out and while driving with trailer connected, there are things you might need to undertake, ensuring safety for other motorists when traveling. They're quite simple.

Common sense is a good barometer for safety. And once you're invested, all is likely to go well on road and water. Tips for safe towing:

  • Your boat or watercraft is sure to have extraneous items aboard, be they poles, nets, skis, floating contraptions, or life preservers. It's a must to store and stow securely, making sure no item or gear takes flight when driving. Clear the decks of all loose accoutrements and equipment.
  • And of course, trailer should be on the hitch and chained appropriately.
