Standard Equipment

The 2018 Ford Edge is a force to be reckoned with, and it starts off strong, with a standard twin-scroll turbo 2.0-liter inline-four EcoBoost® engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, the culmination of which delivers 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. And that's only the first in a trio of engines.

Beyond performance, the 2018 Ford Edge delivers a comfortable interior to take on any day, whether it's a weekend escape or just part of your busy daily grind. The 2018 Edge features a standard Cargo Management System, eight standard cupholders, standard Ford SYNC®, and four standard 12-volt power outlets for the comfort and convenience of your passengers. Additional convenience features are available as part of a higher trim or additional packages.

If you're interested in a little luxury with your performance SUV, the Titanium trim ushers in standard leather upholstery, standard exterior chrome accents, and standard 19-inch wheels. While those are all upgrades from the base SE trim, they are well worth a little tree climbing.

We alluded to a trio of engines above, and while we mentioned the standard 245-horsepower EcoBoost® engine, Kalamazoo drivers are probably eager to hear about the other two, and who are we to withhold? The same six-speed automatic transmission that features in the SE trim is standard throughout the entire lineup, so we're only going to get into the engine differences. The next engine up is a tremendous 3.5-liter V6, adding power and gusto to the 2018 Edge—specifically, 280 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. The third engine stars in the 2018 Edge Sport, and it's a 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost® engine serving up 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The Sport trim is also special because it gives you standard all-wheel drive (AWD), whereas this is an optional feature on the previous three trims.

When it comes to family driving, it's hard to deny that onboard technology plays a big role, not just in terms of safety (which we'll get to in the next section), but also when it comes to everyone's enjoyment. The 2018 Ford Edge features plenty of tech, both standard and available. In fact, technology even plays a role in efficiency, thanks to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost® engine's standard Auto Start-Stop Technology. But beyond that, there's tons of technology and convenience features that you can actually see working.

An available Hands-Free, Foot-Activated Liftgate makes things a lot easier, especially if your hands are full. On the inside, SYNC® is standard, but SYNC® 3, with an 8.0-inch touchscreen and support for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, is available on the SEL trim and up. Bluetooth® phone and audio is again standard, as is one USB port. There is an entertainment package available for those who prize connectivity, and it's available on the SEL and up, bringing SYNC® 3, an additional USB port, a premium 9-speaker audio system, and Ford AppLink, a feature that connects your smartphone apps with similar apps on Ford's SYNC® software.

Safety Features

The 2018 Ford Edge emphasizes safety, with features like all-wheel drive (AWD) and rain-sensing windshield wipers available to not only make life a little easier, but to keep you and your crew a little safer on the road, rain or shine. As we all well know, Kalamazoo, MI isn't known for its delicate and forgiving weather, so having AWD and rain-sensing wipers can only come in handy! As for other, active safety features, there's a dedicated package for that: the "Ford Safe and Smart Package™." This package is available on the SEL, Titanium, and top-tier Sport trim, and it offers the following features at one flat price: BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System), a 180° Front-facing Camera, Automatic High-Beam Headlamps, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers.

Trim Configurations

The 2018 Ford Edge offers four trims, each building on the one before it:

  • 2018 Ford Edge SE: The entry-level trim starts off strong and things only get better from there; it features the standard equipment mentioned above, while features like all-wheel drive (AWD), Black Roof Rack Side Rails, or the Cargo Accessory Package are optional extras to spice things up.
  • 2018 Ford Edge SEL: This trim features the same engine as the previous trim, but it steps you up to 18-inch Aluminum Wheels, though 19-inch Premium Metallic-Painted wheels are available. Additional features like BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System), a hands-free, foot-activated liftgate, or a Heated Steering Wheel are available on this trim. Again SYNC® is standard, but SYNC® 3 is available for those who'd like a little more connectivity, including support for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.
  • 2018 Ford Edge Titanium: Once you hit the Titanium trim, previously-available features like the Hands-Free, Foot-Activated Liftgate, SYNC® 3, and Ambient Interior Lighting become standard features. Additionally, this trim emphasizes interior comfort and convenience. Leather-trimmed Sport Bucket Seats are standard, replacing the cloth seats that came before. Other design elements to watch out for include standard metal-plated accents and illuminated scruff plates.
  • 2018 Ford Edge Sport: The most notable upgrade to the Sport trim is a 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost® engine, which is responsible for 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, and all-wheel drive also becomes standard at the top of the trim tree. In terms of safety, the SEL trim, the previous Titanium trim and the Sport trim can all be equipped with the Safe and Smart package, which is a driver-assist oriented package, delivering BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System), Automatic High-Beam Headlamps, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers.
