The Ford Explorer has been so successful because of its capability, size, and other great qualities. At Tapper Ford in Paw Paw, MI, we're pleased that there are a few available powertrains with this three-row SUV.

The first option is a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine. Though it's the standard engine, it's definitely impressive, as it can have up to 300 horsepower. Then, there's a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that can be found in some of the top trims. This engine can make up to 400 horsepower. Finally, there's a hybrid powertrain that uses a 3.3-liter V6 and an electric motor. Together, they can make 318 horsepower. Regardless of engine type, the SUV has a ten-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional on most Ford Explorers, with the default drivetrain being a rear-wheel version.

If you're someone who loves going off the beaten path, consider getting the Timberline trim. This Ford Explorer has steel skid plates and a limited-slip rear axle, as well as other rugged features.
